LET 2 Cadets from Woodbridge Senior High School participated in a Cadet Staff Ride to the US Army Museum at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The cadets demonstrated exceptional teamwork planning their field trip. From the very beginning, they took initiative, conducting research to understand the purpose of the visit and coordinating logistics to ensure a smooth and fun experience. Their attention to detail and commitment to the project was evident in every step, ensuring the trip was both educational and inspiring. The museum provided cadets the history of the United States Army from 1775 to present day.

Highlights included artifacts that showcase the Army’s role in World War II, such as the M4 Sherman “Cobra King” Tank and a Higgins assault boat that participated in the D-Day landings. Other highlights included rifles from the American Revolution; and an engine recovered from one of the helicopters immortalized in “Blackhawk Down.” Every period of military history – from the American Revolution to Iraq and Afghanistan was depicted with meticulous care throughout 10 exhibits.

Actual uniforms and equipment used by Soldiers brought those battles to life with realistic human figures modeled on actual service members. In the museum’s theater cadets watched an amazing film, “Of Noble Deeds,” which explores what it means to truly be an American Soldier.

It includes footage of Soldiers and current Army operations along with re-creations of some of the Army’s most significant battles – broadcast on a 300-degree screen with external sensory elements. Through this experience, Viking Battalion Cadets exemplified the core values of JROTC – responsibility, respect, and leadership, while building a stronger sense of camaraderie and a deeper appreciation for military service.
