Winston Churchill High School: A Day of Service Feeding the San Antonio Community

Cadets from the Winston Churchill High School JROTC program proudly demonstrated their commitment to service recently by volunteering at the San Antonio Food Bank warehouse, where cadets worked side by side to sort and prepare food for distribution to families in need. Through their hard work and teamwork, the cadets helped process an impressive 59,168 pounds of food, directly supporting the food bank’s mission of fighting hunger across the San Antonio area.

“I enjoyed my time at the food bank,” said Cadet Kassidy Lee. “It’s rewarding to know that families will have food because of something the Churchill cadets contributed to.”
The impact of this service was significant. The amount of food sorted by Churchill HS JROTC cadets is equivalent to approximately 41,418 meals, helping provide nourishment for an estimated 4,226 families. Each box sorted and pallet prepared represents more than numbers – it means families receiving meals, relief, and hope.

“It made me realize how simple it is to go out and help people and just how many people need our help,” said Cadet Annabelle Carrion.

The cadets approached the task with professionalism, discipline, and pride, understanding that their efforts would make a real and measurable difference in the lives of others.

Community service is not just an activity for the Churchill High School JROTC program; it’s a core part of who they are. The cadets’ willingness to give their time and energy reflects the values of selfless service, leadership, and citizenship that JROTC strives to instill. By giving back to the San Antonio community in meaningful ways, Winston Churchill HS JROTC continues to model what it means to serve others and to lead with purpose and heart.
