From Nov. 1-4, 2024, scholars from West Charlotte High School’s Army JROTC program visited Washington D.C. They explored notable monuments, memorials, and museums, with highlights including a tour of the U.S. Capitol, where they saw the Capitol Rotunda and Statuary Hall, featuring North Carolina’s Reverend Billy Graham’s statue. At Arlington National Cemetery, four cadets laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider. The trip also included a nighttime visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, where cadets engaged with quotes around the monument. This experience was made possible by student dedication and generous sponsorships.
