On October 16, 2023, former U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Dakota Meyer, a distinguished Medal of Honor recipient, visited Waimea High School Army JROTC from 8th Brigade. Meyer was awarded the Medal of Honor by former President Barack Obama for his courageous actions during the Battle of Ganjgal in Kunar Province, Afghanistan on September 8, 2009. During his visit, Meyer shared his remarkable life journey and experiences with the Waimea Menehune JROTC Battalion, providing valuable insights and life lessons that continue to inspire and motivate the Cadets. The Cadets were honored to have Meyer as a guest and will undoubtedly cherish the memories of his visit.
