On Aug. 23, the Golden Bear Battalion embodied the meaning of becoming better citizens by helping those in the community. On the Fourth of July, the city of Kerrville, Texas, and surrounding cities was devastated by the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry. This caused the Guadalupe River to reach historic flood levels. The Cadets in cooperation with America Corp helped by framing and rebuilding a house of an elderly couple whose house was swept away in the flood. The Cadets helped by building the exterior walls of the house and putting up the weather sheeting on the house. By the time the Cadets left that day, all of the exterior walls were completed, the weather sheeting was complete, and the Cadets left with an understanding of how they can make a difference in their community by reaching out and touching others.
