Manta Ray Battalion Cadets Participate In The Purple Wave, Walk, and Roll Event
On Oct. 19, 2023, Saipan Southern High School Manta-Ray Battalion participated in the Purple Wave, Walk, and Roll event, which took place at San Vicente Park from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Where Cadets got to show their support to the survivors and victims of domestic violence in honor of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Manta Ray Cadets formed up around 4:15 p.m. for registration and were briefed alongside the Marianas High School Dolphin Battalion and Kagman High School Ayuyu Battalion on what to expect throughout the march. Followed by the Cadets participating in the roadside waving before starting the mile-long walk around San Vicente. The Manta Ray Battalion proudly led the way for the other JROTC battalions and event volunteers while reciting cadences loud and proud. Once the march was finished the Cadets were provided with nutritious fruits and water.

C/SSG Xing, David stated his experience to be “Very fun we got to march alongside the other schools while showing support to the victims of domestic violence and contributing back to our community.”
C/SSG Mad, Niana explained how she “ Really enjoyed the DVAM walk! I was super happy we were able to participate in it. In my opinion, our presence that day gave us time to reflect on things that go on around the world. As a teenager of this generation when I experience these events I start thinking about it and realize I have a voice that I can use to talk about these problems we are having and see that I and anyone else can make a difference.”
C/2LT Villagomez, Ashley stated how she “Thought it was very cool to be able to walk around San Vicente and spread awareness about domestic violence.”

The Manta Ray Battalion is glad to have participated in this year’s purple wave, walk, and roll event as well as to be able to showcase our support and spread awareness throughout the community on the matter of domestic violence.
