ON THUR 9 May 2024 Carl Hayden Community High School JROTC Cadets, Phoenix, Arizona presented their Service-Learning Brief to the Senior Army Instructor LTC Timothy Johnson and the South Mountain Community College Dual Enrollment Program Director Dr Bruce McHenry. Phoenix Union JROTC LET 3 Junior Cadets and LET 4 Senior Cadets are eligible to take Dual Enrollment college courses from several Phoenix area community colleges. The brief explained the Cadet Service-Learning project at the Saint Vincent De Paul Neighborhood Support Project.
In the fall, Cadets received classroom instruction on project planning, management skills and the importance of community service. The Cadets then developed a plan to support the project. After coordination with Saint Vincent De Paul and scheduling dates the Cadets assisted at the main Saint Vincent De Paul center for the evening meal they provide to the community. On three separate occasions in the spring, Cadets prepared meals, served dinner, and played games with kids at the center.
