HUNTSVILLE, AL — On March 30, 2023, the Battalion Commander for the Lee/New Century Technology General Battalion, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel(C/LTC) Philip Altman was presented the Legion of Valor with Bronze Cross by Lieutenant General (LTG) Christopher Mohan, the Deputy Commanding General for the Army Materiel Command (AMC) for his outstanding academic achievements and dedication in and outside of JROTC.
C/LTC Philip Altman is an accomplished young man that never settles for mediocrity. His GPA of 4.1 coupled with his score of 33 on the ACT is demonstrative of that point while providing him unlimited options for the next phase of his life. C/LTC Altman is a member of the National Honor Society, Air Rifle Team, JLAB Team, PT Team and CyberPatriot Team. In his spare time, he is also a part of an Ultimate Frisbee Team. C/LTC Altman also engaged with his church and community. After Graduation he plans to attend the Colorado School of the Mines and major in Mechanical Engineering. C/LTC Altman was asked why he joined JROTC, his response was, “I didn’t want to take PE and my friend told me I could get my Career Prep credit.” When asked why he stayed in JROTC, he said,” JROTC gave me the confidence I needed to try things I wouldn’t usually do. And, belonging to something greater than myself is a good feeling.”
