On the 12th of November 2022 James Monroe High School took over 125 cadets and chaperones to the UCLA versus Arizona football game for UCLA Veteran & Armed Forces Appreciation game in front of over 46,000 in attendance at the Historical Rose Ball. We were asked to unfurl the U.S. Flag during the Halftime show with the UCLA Band.

Along with James Monroe the Director of Army Instruction, COL (Ret) Darryl W. Hensley, requested help from some of the other unit in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Those units were: Jordan HS with 10 cadets, Jefferson HS with 12 Cadets, Los Angeles HS with 20 Cadets, Gardena HS with 12 Cadets, and CPT Wallis, with the California Cadet Corps, 273rd BN, 15th BDE – Rosamond High School.

This was the Viking Battalion 8th time helping and showing our respect to our Veterans and all the Armed Forces. This year the normal flag, which covers the whole football field was accidently sent to Fayetteville, Arkansas by mistake, however, we were able to use a smaller U.S. Flag and made it work for all in attendance.

Our Corps of Cadets were able to mix with the Senior ROTC Cadets from UCLA in collaboration and with the other cadets in attendance. The cadets enjoyed going down to the football field and watch everyone thank them and clap for our Nation’s Flag.
