Cadet Major Abner Penaloza-Escalante will be representing the state of California and Henry J. Kaiser High School at the National World War II Museum at the end of May for the American Spirit Awards Program. The Billy Michal Student Leadership Award is presented annually to one student from each state and the District of Columbia who demonstrates the American spirit in his or her community. The 51 selected student leadership award winners will be flown to New Orleans along with a parent or chaperone, to attend the 2025 American Spirit Awards program from May 29th – June 1st, 2025. They will then represent their state at multiple events over the weekend. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in leadership activities, explore New Orleans and receive exclusive behind-the-scenes access to The National WWII Museum. This awards program is open to all high school students in the 50 States and the District of Columbia.
