FARMINGTON, NM — Congratulations to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Gatlin James of Piedra Vista High School, Farmington, New Mexico. On February 8, 2023, Gatlin accepted a nomination to attend the United States Military Academy and signed a national letter of intent to compete on the USMA Rifle Team! All your hard work and determination has paid off. We know that you are going to have continued success in the next chapter of your life. You provide a perfect example for all PVHS JROTC cadets to emulate. GO ARMY!

Cadet James exemplifies the Senior ROTC model: Scholar, Athlete, Leader. He currently maintains a cumulative grade point average of 4.36, scored in the 91st percentile on the Cadet Challenge fitness test, and serves as the Panther Battalion Commander and Captain of the Raider and Precision Rifle Teams. Gatlin chose West Point over an appointment to the United States Naval Academy as well as Senior ROTC offers from North Carolina State, Texas Tech, and Murray State
