On January 18, 2025, Garfield High School Army JROTC Battalion Commander C/LTC Mai Khuong, presented her award-winning essay, “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?” to local members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1013 and Post Commander Mr. Tony Zapata.
C/LTC Khuong’s essay reading welcomed her parents and garnered community support with many compliments after her stellar performance.
C/LTC Khuong was awarded a $500.00 check and a commemorative plaque. When asked about the importance of her essay, she indicated the main take-a-way of her essay was: “Our modern-day United States has multiple factors like a divided government, the expansion of civil rights, and the current lack of civic engagement which deviates today’s nation from the vision of our founding fathers.” Again, congratulations to C/LTC Khuong, and hoping her great success at the next essay level.
