October 24, 2023, Fairmont Heights High School Hornet Battalion from Landover, Maryland JROTC Color Guard and the newly charted National Society of Black Jacks Drill Team received a coin each from General Charles Q. Brown, 21st Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and words of encouragement from the Army Veteran and Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore. This Veteran’s Gala was held at the Army and Navy Country Club located in Alexandria, Virginia. During this event, the Lifetime Veteran Mentorship Award was presented to WWII Navy Veteran Truman Semans, and Veterans from all branches of service.
