On 21 February, the Denver JROTC held their first Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) certification course at Abrahm Lincoln High School. Abraham Lincoln High School was chosen as their archery team was the Rocky Mountain JROTC Archery League champions. The course was facilitated by 1SG (R) Paul Mahoney (Operations) and 1SG (R) Nick Lewis (AI Abrahm Lincoln High School) who recently were certified as BAI Trainers at Fort Knox.

The course was a huge success and despite the snow, all ten candidates made it safely and on time. The candidates were from across the state and included instructors from the AFJROTC, SFJROTC, AJROTC, MCJROTC, and NJROTC, a truly joint event. SFC Mike Martich from Denver West HS won the coveted “Robin Hood” award during the “This Ring or Better” competition at the end. All candidates passed the course and are now certified Basic Archery Instructors.
