October 3rd, 2024 – BG Steven King, the Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Cadet Command, visited Denbigh High School’s Patriot Battalion of the 4th Brigade. The purpose of this visit was to observe the school’s JROTC program in action.
Cadre and cadet Battalion staffs from the Bethel High School Bruin Battalion and Smithfield High School Packer Battalion were invited to attend this event. BG King first met with the Denbigh High Principal, Dr. Adria Strothers, after the meet he went on a tour of the school which was led by C/LTC Isaac Prudencio, C/CPT Riley Harris, and C/CSM Amaya Washington.

Following the tour, the Patriot Battalion command and staff provided the DCG with a detailed briefing on the JROTC program and its achievements. This was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session with the DCG, COL Samuel Licorish (Richmond City School’s DAI), and LTC Charles Birdsong (Denbigh HS SAI), allowing the cadets to explore various aspects of military life, college, future endeavors, professional development, personal experiences, Army values, and leadership.

As a highlight of the visit, BG King recognized the exemplary performance of three cadets, one from each participating school: C/MAJ Dominick Barham (Bethel), C/1LT Kymora Robinson (Denbigh), and C/CPT Charlise Albers (Smithfield), by presenting them with the prestigious Cadet Command coin.
This enriching visit provided the cadets with valuable insights, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities that come with military service and leadership. The interactive sessions and recognition of outstanding cadets underscored the significance of the JROTC program in shaping the personal and professional development of these young individuals.
