Denbigh High School – Denbigh High School JROTC Awards Night Celebrates Achievement, Leadership, and Legacy

Newport News, VA — The Denbigh High School Army JROTC “Patriot Battalion” hosted its annual Awards Night, an evening of honor, recognition, and tradition. Held in the school auditorium, the event celebrated the Cadets’ accomplishments, leadership, and growth throughout the 2024–2025 school year. Cadets were recognized across multiple categories for their efforts both inside and outside the classroom. Awards were presented by various national organizations, including the American Legion, Military Order of the World Wars, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. These awards reflect the hard work, commitment, and personal growth of cadets throughout the school year, proving themselves not just in uniform, but in character.

A key highlight of the night was the official announcement of the new Patriot Battalion staff for the 2025–2026 school year. With outgoing leadership having set a high standard of excellence, battalion now turns a new leaf as fresh leaders take the helm. The newly appointed staff pledged to carry on the program’s legacy of discipline, service, and pride.

As tradition holds, the senior cadets were honored for their dedication to the program. A heartfelt moment was shared as the Class of 2025 presented their senior gift to the battalion: a senior photo of themselves to represent unity, pride, and the spirit of the Patriots.

Another special moment was the awarding of the Army ROTC Scholarship to C/LTC Isaac Prudencio, who will attend the Virginia Military Institute. C/LTC Prudencio was also presented with the Superior Cadet Graduate Award, an inscribed saber. The award recognizes a graduating cadet who demonstrates leadership, academic excellence, and service to the community. He was celebrated with a standing ovation from fellow cadets and families.

The evening concluded with inspiring words from Principal Dr. Adria Strothers, who emphasized the strength of the JROTC program at Denbigh High School. She reminded cadets of the school’s guiding values—The Four Patriot P’s: Present, Punctual, Positive, and Productive.

“Each of you represents what it means to be a true leader,” Dr. Strothers stated. “You show up, you lead by example, and you serve your school and community with pride. JROTC at Denbigh is not just a program—it is a force of young leaders shaping the future.”

As the cadets and families departed, there was a sense of pride in the air—pride in what had been achieved, and hope for what is still to come.
