Cadets from Daegu Middle High School in Daegu, South Korea recently received a history lesson on the Korean War while touring the Waegwan War Memorial Museum. The Warrior Battalion walked through moments and artifacts of history that signified the dedication, sacrifice, and selfless service of Korean War veterans. Cadets learned about American involvement in the war, and the strategy to the success of maintaining the Demilitarized Zone.
“It motivated me more to join the military,” said Cadet Tristan Berry. “And it also made me realize the sacrifices made from the people of our nations in order to get to where we are today.”
Standing among the exhibits, artifacts, and memorials dedicated to those who served during the Korean War, Daegu Middle High School cadets gained more than just historical knowledge: they gained perspective. Seeing the equipment, photographs, and personal stories of these soldiers first-hand helped bring to life the sacrifices made to defend freedom on the Korean Peninsula.
This experience in understanding military history is more than a lesson. It develops leadership, character, and respect for those who came before us. The Korean War directly shaped the alliance and security environment we see today, and learning about it at this exhibition makes the connection even more meaningful.
“It was valuable to learn about the Korean War. It made me feel sad knowing how hard the soldiers fought for freedom,” said Cadet June Mathis.
