On September 9, 2023, the Cumberland County Army JROTC Cadets played a vital role in the POW/MIA Luncheon. The Foundation organized a Statewide Event to Honor Prisoners of War and the Families of our Military Missing in Action. The Luncheon was held in Fayetteville at the Crown Coliseum where 700 people attended to recognize 2 former POWs.

We had the honor of meeting Mr. Bill Borer, who fought in several battalions and was taken prisoner in 1950, he was released in 1953. Over 35 Families of those still Missing were in attendance for the state of North Carolina.

All Cumberland County Army JROTC high schools participated which consisted of South View, Jack Britt, Douglas Byrd, and Westover High Schools. Each school provided services along with their Cadets during the event including a Walk of Honor Saber Salute for our Prisoner of War Heroes. They received a standing ovation. The Cadets had an opportunity to meet actual Military Heroes.

I, SGM (R) Ruby Murray, was one of the coordinators and one of the Vice Chair for the State of North Carolina for this event. Cpt (R) Cook played a vital role in the empty chair ceremony along with the South View High School Cadets. Other Instructors who played a vital role were CSM (R) Gary Hunt, CSM (R) LaMonta Caldwell, CSM (R) Andrew Crockwell, LTC (R) Tony Memminger, and Maj (R) Terence Staples.
