The annual Raider Brigade Fall Review took place on October 4, marking its 105th year. The Fall Review celebrates the anniversary of the first time that the Corps of Cadets marched in public at the November 1918 Thanksgiving Day Parade. This annual event welcomes the new 9th graders to the Raider Brigade Corps of Cadets and recognizes some of the top performers in the new class.

Sergeant First Class Brittany Thingvold, a JROTC Instructor here at CDH, talked about how this ceremony marks our founding and the acceptance of new students into the Raider Brigade Corps of Cadets following a period of military drill instruction led by seniors. She pointed out that it is fitting to focus on our 9th-grade class because they are so important to the future of our Raider Brigade.

Colonel Joe Scrocca, our Reviewing Officer, presented awards to 9th grade Cadets for their achievement in military drill, classroom conduct, and showing a high degree of motivation. The award consists of a medal, certificate of achievement, the Commendation Ribbon, and a distinctive black cord worn on the shoulder of the uniform.

The recipients of this award were Colette Hulst ’27, Greta Johnson ’27, Paloma Kronschnabel ’27, Anne Cavanaugh ’27, Gino Rojas ’27, Imogen Weise ’27, Jack Van Gamert ’27, Elizabeth McQuillan ’27, and Herbie Richardson ’27.

Colonel Scrocca talked about the mission of JROTC being “to motivate young people to become better citizens” and that the goal is to prepare students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights and responsibilities as citizens. He ended with some complimentary words for the award recipients. “Awardees, thank you for the outstanding effort you are already putting forth. The awards you received today are not only recognition of what you have achieved, but indicators of your future potential.”
