Story by Cadets Liz Greene and Jafar Liebers
On Monday, September 12th, 2022, Congressional Representatives Don Bacon (NE 02) and Brad Westrup (OH 02) visited the Boys Town Home Campus in Boys Town, NE in order to better understand and support a critical need for Post-Foster Care Youth Transition Programs. As part of this visit, the Representatives spent time with JROTC cadets from the Cowboy Battalion discussing the Boys Town experience, the JROTC curriculum and program, as well as future plans. JROTC Leadership, Citizenship, Skill Synthesis, and Emotional Intelligence were primary topics, well-received by both members with military background. As part of the event, cadets used Boys Town Adventure Training in the form of rappelling to review Fear Reactivity as a component of Behavioral Education. Cadets used the opportunity to present the Representatives with unit T-shirts. Empowerment and resiliency derived from such was also a component of the Cadet Challenge Team’s First Place finish in recent Omaha Public School/ Creighton University competition.
