For this year’s service learning project, cadets focused on raising awareness about the importance of service animals for veterans and raising funds for K9s for Warriors, a nonprofit organization that provides service dogs to veterans with PTSD and other post-war conditions.
The project included three SMART goals: to raise $2,800 for K9s for Warriors, to distribute educational flyers, and to reach 150 views on a video produced by the battalion highlighting the role of service dogs in supporting veterans. By the end of the project, all goals were surpassed.
A one-day bake sale served as the primary fundraiser and was a major success. With the help of generous donations of baked goods and the attendance of two service dogs at the event, cadets raised $2,968.68. The flyers were distributed widely across the community, and the video reached 245 views by March 16.
Participants reflected positively on the experience. Cadet Ritter shared that the project boosted his confidence and expanded his understanding of community service and civic engagement.
This project exemplifies how service learning can make a meaningful difference. For those interested in learning more or supporting the cause, visit k9sforwarriors.
