Alhambra JROTC conducted a Mass Casualty First Aid training event on Friday 26 January 2024 at the Alhambra campus. Cadets put into practice the first aid emergency response actions they were taught during class. They were trained in 1st Aid, CPR, AED use, stopping bleeding, splinting fractures, treating for shock, and remaining calm in an emergency. After first aid actions were complete, the Cadets then transported the casualties to the Alhambra Medical Magnate nursing class. The nursing students continued the training exercise by conducting triage, recording vital signs, practicing patient intake procedures, and patient tracking while continuing life-saving care. Casualties were supplied by volunteer “actors” from Grand Canyon University Senior ROTC. The event was supported by the Arizona Army National Guard and local recruiters. This event was extremely successful and demonstrated collaborations at the high school, college, and professional level. Students were excited to apply their academic knowledge to a simulated real-world training opportunity.
