As family and friends of United States Marine PFC Robert Jenkins, Vietnam Medal of Honor Recipient look on, the Interlachen JROTC Cadets spent their Saturday 13 April 2024 conducting much-needed maintenance at Sister Springs Cemetery in Interlachen, Florida.  Interlachen native and national hero, PFC Robert Jenkins, sacrificed his life in a heroic action on 5 March 1969 while serving on a reconnaissance mission in Vietnam.  For his actions, PFC Jenkins received the Congressional Medal of Honor and was buried in his hometown cemetery. Interlachen JROTC Cadets spent the day leveling headstones, landscaping the cemetery, replacing American Flags, and honoring all military veterans and their families buried in the cemetery.

“These are the things I will miss most when I graduate this year; being able to serve our community and honor our military veterans has been very rewarding  the last four years.”

Cadet Battalion Commander, C/LTC Michael Taylor

The day ended with all the Cadets honoring PFC Robert Jenkins by replacing the United States flags at his gravesite, reading his Medal of Honor citation, and meeting family members and members from his reconnaissance platoon from Vietnam.
