Cahokia High School JROTC Cadets toured the Buffalo Soldiers Monument in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 23 February 2024. The monument is along the Glacial Hills Scenic Byway and is a significant landmark on the base. Cadets had an interactive experience exploring the history of the Buffalo Soldiers and their impact on American history. The visit deepened the Cadet’s understanding, and they were inspired by the information received during the visit. Cadets learned that the Buffalo Soldiers monument was initiated by General Colin Powell and was dedicated in 1992 to the memory of the 9th and 10th regiments of the U.S. Army.
