The Red Raider Battalion from Decatur High School Army JROTC participated in the Junior Achievement program at Oak Park Elementary and Eastwood Elementary on 14 February and 21 February, respectively. During this event 38 Cadets provided instruction for 380 students in grades K – 4th grade that taught community pride, financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship. The Cadets started preparing in January where they reviewed the curriculum for each grade and then organized all Cadets into teams of 2-4 personnel by grade. In early February each team continued reviewing their lesson plans and conducted rehearsals prior to visiting each school. The students at each elementary learned many valuable life skills and enjoyed their time with their Cadet mentors. The Cadets learned a lot about themselves and matured as leaders throughout the process while finding time to have fun both in the classroom and on the recess and PE fields.
