This week C/LTC Ivan Shaw, current Senior and JROTC LET 3 at The Academies at South Mountain, Phoenix, Arizona conducted his first solo flight in a Piper Cherokee. Ivan has successfully completed all the flight requirements as a student in the South Mountain Academies Science, Technology, and Aerospace program. He is also a member of the Varsity Football, Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Soccer Teams, and a member of the National Honor Society. Ivan has applied to the United States Military Academy at West Point and hopes to pursue a degree in aeronautical and mechanical engineering and a career as an Army aviator.
