On September 22nd, Garinger High School JROTC conducted its first homecoming parade in 12 years. We started planning for this event in August just as school started. We had numerous hurdles to overcome such as issuing uniforms and teaching LET Is how to march, while getting other school organizations to participate.
Wildcat Battalion received the football schedule during the first week of August and realized homecoming was only 4 weeks after school started. With guidance from our instructors, we worked with the homecoming committee, school marching band, and school improvement team to ensure positive results. Mr. Chinn played a key role in tailoring the LET I uniforms in 2 days so they could march.
As the band’s drumline started playing and we entered the viewing area, all conversations stopped and we received a standing ovation not only from Garinger students and alumni but from the visiting team. The parade was a great success; unfortunately, we did not win the football game.
