31 Jul – 3 Aug 23 Washington, D.C – Grainger High School Army JROTC Cadets competed with other students around the world at the Red Cross Youth Action Campaign and won the JROTC Division.

During the selection process, our Cadets researched and produced a brochure that informed the community of the impact of armed conflicts on the environment. Once developed, the Cadets coordinated with schools and universities who distributed the brochures to their respective students. The brochures were evaluated based on both content and overall quality.

This was the first year our Cadets participated in this event. Noteworthy, since our school was a JROTC Program they were invited to the Pentagon.

While there, they were briefed by Major General Joseph Berger (Army Deputy Judge Advocate General – 2nd ranking attorney in the Army) and received medals for their actions. Megan Wachtel was invited to return to the Red Cross Headquarters after graduation for a internship.

The Summit consisted of students around the world where they interacted and provided feedback on the Youth Action Campaign to Red Cross Executives. During this discussion, they gave their ideas on how to improve the Youth Action Campaign and advocated International Humanitarian Law.
