JROTC Cadets from the Vroonland Vanguard High School JROTC Battalion completed their annual Service-Learning Project on 1 April. This year, the Cadets partnered with Southern Methodist University (SMU) to provide support to local homeless Veterans.
Cadets from Vroonland Vanguard High developed a plan after reaching out to SMU ROTC and spent several weeks conducting a hygiene supply drive at their school. During this time, the Cadets gathered over 2,100 various hygiene supplies that were collected by SMU Cadets. During a trip to SMU on 1 April, the JROTC cadets spent the afternoon sorting the hygiene supplies and packing them in backpacks for distribution to homeless Veterans. Their efforts, in partner with SMU, resulted in the assembly of over 90 backpacks. The event culminated with a dialogue session between the JROTC Cadets and an SMU ROTC Representative. During this time, the JROTC Cadets learned about ROTC Scholarship opportunities, life as an ROTC Cadet and various opportunities and programs offered by SMU.
