Brooklyn, New York — Two Fort Hamilton High School cadets received award from the American Legion Post 688 on March 30 , 2023. The post commander Major Diaz awarded Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Brianna Zepeda-Reyes with the Military Excellence Award and Cadet Sergeant First Class Ching Gee Ma with the Scholastic Excellence Award.

Fort Hamilton High School Tiger Battalion, Cadet Captain Sebastian Zhang and Cadet Captain Joshua Joseph Staroselskiy received acceptances to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Cadet Staroselskiy and Cadet Zhang have received offers of appointment to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. “When I was younger, I never envisioned myself being in the military. Having the opportunity to go to the United States Merchant Academy has expanded my horizons in hopes that I can fulfill my dreams to becoming an aviation officer in active duty. I have to thank Sergeant First Class David Freeland and Major Sang Lee, for giving me guidance and someone that I can look up to. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t always for them believing and constantly motivating me to be an outstanding cadet in the JROTC. “- Cadet Captain Sebastian Zhang
