Cadets from James A. Garfield High School in Los Angeles, Calif. recently joined several other JROTC schools to salute our veterans at the annual Massing of the Colors event.

The Massing of the Colors has been held annually at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills, Calif. for the last 42 years, coinciding with the birthday of President George Washington.

“The Massing of the Colors is such a unique event honoring our service members,” said Cadet Eric Lopez.

This year, there were more than 60 JROTC Color Guard teams in attendance, including several representing the Los Angeles Unified School District: Garfield High School, Lincoln High School, Manual Arts High School, Van Nuys High School, and Monroe High School, as well as other JROTC and ROTC units from the surrounding area.

“I was so amazed by all the participants, veterans, service members, JROTC units, and attending public guests – everyone coming together as a family, enjoying the ceremonial event,” said Cadet Judith Cano.

The ceremony included a parade of Color Guards, a flag folding ceremony, a military band, and vintage bombers flying a “Missing Man” formation, which is a crowd-pleaser every year.
