The Mercer County Technical Schools Army JROTC STEM Academy, a newly established program in September 2025, proudly marked a historic milestone.  On Dec. 9, the Cadets were honored to participate in the start-of-observance ceremony for this year’s National Wreaths Across America, held at the New Jersey Statehouse in Trenton.

This distinguished event was made possible through a partnership with Wreaths Across America, the New Jersey State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the New Jersey Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. These organizations, whose missions center on honoring our nation’s heroes and preserving America’s founding ideals, warmly welcomed the Cadets into a meaningful day of remembrance.

“Attending the Wreath Across America Ceremony at the New Jersey Statehouse made me feel like I finally belonged to something bigger,” said Cadet Abraham Ochoa. “Seeing the pride of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution gave me even more motivation and belief in myself, and in our Nation.”

During the ceremony, Cadets took part in the Wreaths Across America tribute honoring Veterans who served our nation with courage and dignity. They recited the Pledge of Allegiance, listened to remarks from distinguished guest speakers, and engaged in heartfelt conversations with veterans, patriots, and community leaders. The event also provided a unique opportunity for Cadets to meet members of the New Jersey DAR and SAR, lineage-based organizations dedicated to honoring Revolutionary War ancestors and promoting patriotism through education and service.

Throughout the day, Cadets asked insightful questions, demonstrated maturity and respect, and embraced the chance to learn from those who have served and those who work tirelessly to preserve America’s history. Their participation not only enriched their own understanding of service and sacrifice but also represented the values and pride of the emerging STEM Academy.

“The parade made me truly proud to be part of the JROTC program. Working together with my fellow Cadets created a real sense of fellowship,” said Cadet Samantha Melgar. “We united to give our school and community the best parade we could, and that connection is something I’ll always carry with me.”

The Mercer County Technical Schools Army JROTC STEM Academy looks forward to building on this strong foundation and continuing its mission to develop future leaders grounded in patriotism, service, and academic excellence.
