Denbigh High School’s Army JROTC Patriot Battalion proudly kicked off the 2025–2026 school year by serving during the school’s annual freshman orientation. Cadets demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and school spirit as they welcomed the newest Patriots to the Denbigh family.
Cadets played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event by assisting as escorts, helping incoming students and their families navigate the school with ease. Their confident presence provided reassurance to parents while also giving freshmen a positive first impression of Denbigh High School’s welcoming environment.
“Being an escort gave me the chance to show new students that they’re not alone,” said Cadet Aidan Campbell. “We wanted them to know they already have a team here to support them.”
The orientation ceremony was highlighted by the Presentation of the Colors, led by the Patriot Battalion Color Guard. With precision and dignity, the cadets honored both school and country, setting the tone for the event while showcasing the discipline and pride of the JROTC program.
“Carrying the flag at orientation was an honor,” said Cadet Jaidyn Pettaway. “It reminded me that we represent more than just ourselves—we represent our school and our nation.”
In addition to supporting the event, Patriot cadets also took the opportunity to share information about the JROTC program, encouraging incoming students to join and become part of a team dedicated to leadership, service, and excellence. Through conversations, displays, and personal testimonies, cadets inspired interest among the freshman class, building momentum for another strong year in the program.
“JROTC has taught me leadership and confidence I didn’t think I had,” said Cadet Riley Harris. “I told freshmen that if they join, they’ll gain skills and friendships that last beyond high school.”
The Patriot Battalion stands ready and poised to begin the school year with a spirit of service—not only to Denbigh High School, but also to the greater Newport News community. Their participation in Freshman Orientation is just one example of how Denbigh JROTC cadets continue to live out the program’s mission of motivating young people to be better citizens.
