For the third consecutive year, the Lions Battalion’s Unarmed Drill Team once again secured a spot at the prestigious Drill Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, from May 1-4, proudly representing the school and the state. Competing on a national stage, the team once again showcased their commitment and teamwork, forming meaningful connections that extended beyond the battalion. Through unwavering dedication and discipline, the team’s hard work paid off with strong national rankings: 27th place overall out of 48 schools in the Unarmed Division, 29th in Unarmed Exhibition, 8th in Dual Exhibition, 11th in Unarmed Inspection, 34th in Unarmed Regulation, and 40th in Unarmed Color Guard.
Beyond the competition floor, cadets engaged with recruiters from ROTC programs and military branches, gaining valuable insights into potential career paths and future opportunities. After competing, cadets enjoyed a day of relaxation at Florida’s stunning coastal gem, Daytona Beach, celebrating their achievements and creating lasting memories beyond the competition. For many, the trip was more than just rankings — it left a lasting impression. C/MAJ and Unarmed Exhibition Commander Amy Yoo highlighted the value of getting the opportunity to compete at a national level, encouraging future cadets to take advantage of the opportunity, stating that “Going to Drill Nationals was an excellent and exciting experience, and I definitely recommend it to cadets who are interested in continuing drill for their next years in JROTC. It gives a better understanding of what larger-scale competitions are organized and executed. It’s also a great time to bond with your team!”
In all, the cadets’ journey to Drill Nationals was more than a competition, instead, it was an opportunity to grow, strengthen bonds, and embrace the discipline and dedication that define their team.
