JROTC Director’s Biography

Colonel Lee A. Evans, a native of San Antonio, Texas, was commissioned from the United States Military Academy in 2000, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management.  He holds a Master of Science in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Louisville.

Following flight school and qualification as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot, COL Evans began his career as a platoon leader in the 5-101st Aviation Regiment (ASSAULT), 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and in Iraq during the early stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Following the Aviation Captain’s Career Course, he was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division where he took command of Alpha Company, 3-227th Aviation Regiment (ASSAULT), 1st Air Cavalry Brigade.  Following a second deployment to Iraq, he attended graduate school at Georgia Tech and served as a Course Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the United States Military Academy.  In 2012, after graduating from the Command and General Staff College, COL Evans was assigned to the U.S. Army Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, KY as an operations research analyst, and later as an assignment officer.  In 2018, following the completion of his Ph.D. at the University of Louisville, he was once again assigned to the West Point Department of Mathematical Sciences, this time as an Associate Program Director, leading the multivariable calculus and differential equations program for STEM majors.  In 2021, COL Evans was assigned to the U.S. Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky as Chief of the Operations Analysis Division before being assigned as Assistant Chief of Staff, G2 (Senior Operations Research Analyst) for the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. COL Evans currently serves as the Director of Army JROTC at the U.S. Army Cadet Command.

His awards and decorations include the Senior Army Aviator Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), the Air Medal (NUM 4), the Army Commendation Medals (2 OLC), the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
