On 19-20 March, 2025, Sam Houston Math Science and Technology Center’s JROTC Program conducted an annual recruiting blitz at feeder schools at Patrick Henry Middle School and Fonville Middle School to boost LET 1 population.
This year, the Black Knights divided up into three separate engagement teams to compete against each other so see which team recorded the most names and student ID numbers. The Battalion Commander led one team while the XO and CSM each led their own teams. The Black Knights put on a push up competition for t shirts as prizes, and then conducted armed and unarmed drill exhibitions. Then, the teams went into the crowd of 8th graders and asked the students if they each wanted to join JROTC. With both schools combined, over 160 students over two middle schools offered their names and ID numbers so that the high school counselors can now pinpoint them into the program. Recruiting matters.
