29 SEPTEMBER 2022- Smithfield High School – It is a pleasure to announce Cadet Captain Garrett Halle as a recipient of the Legion of Valor Award for 2022. Cadet Halle is a senior at Smithfield High School and is currently serving as the Battalion Commander of the Smithfield JROTC Packer Battalion. The award was presented by LTC (ret) Rich Rinaldo a Distinguished Service Cross recipient. The award is given to only 60-70 JROTC cadets each year who demonstrate excellence in academics, athletics and leadership. Only 1 in approximately 4000 cadets participating in JROTC receive this prestigious award.
Cadet Halle is currently a member of the SHS National Honor Society and the SHS Rifle Team. Cadet Halle was a member of the Fort Leavenworth High School JROTC National Champion Raider Team twice, has received the Special Forces Award of excellence, and the Superior Cadet Award among many others. He has also served on the JROTC Leadership, Academic, and Drill Teams.
This past school year Cadet Halle was selected and attended the Senior Leader Experience at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY., was selected and attended Virginia Boys State, and was selected and attended the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) at Virginia Tech.
He is ranked in the top 7% of his class of 307 seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 4.33. He is very active in both his community and church. After graduation, Cadet Halle plans to attend Brigham Young University on an ROTC scholarship and serve in the US Army as an officer after his graduation.
